Words and Wisdom.
“You pulled that out of context…”
“Don’t you know who that is? I wouldn’t be caught dead quoting them…”
I know, I know, I know. Valid criticisms.
But here’s what quotations are from my perspective. They are words strung together in a particular order that articulate something much deeper. A statement that when I read it, I say, “Yes! That’s exactly how I feel,” or “Hmm, that’s a perspective I’ve never tried before.”
I cite the sources of these statements mostly because I want to give credit where credit is due, but I’m not focusing as much on what the author meant with the words as what those words mean to me. The statements that I choose to remember are ones that say more about me and who I am in that moment than the context of the passage from which I pulled them.
Quotations make up for my inadequacies in formulating and expressing my thoughts about life.
Again, those above criticisms are valid, but I’m willing to live with them.
